What’s new in Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 2?

After a highly anticipated wait, Epic Games just released the trailer for Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 2. Here is the Battle Pass trailer and below is the Chapter 2 trailer.

There are plenty of questions coming out of this, not least because there has been a growing concern for the lack of updates being announced by the company.

At the same time as the Season 2 trailer was released, Epic Games also released the Battle Pass too.

If you have a minute, it’s definitely worth watching both the trailers. But here are some areas we thought were worth highlighting:

1. Battle Pass with a hideout and team of agents

Fortnite does not disappoint with these new updates. We’ll see an introduction of plenty of new characters including Meowscles, Midas, Maya and many more.

In this battle pass, there will also be missions to earn battle pass variants (Ghost or Shadow) as well as limited-time operations.

2. New 007 agent theme, featuring Deadpool

It’s always amazing to see the scale at which Fortnite will collaborate with mainstream entertainment companies, but Marvel will also have a huge opportunity mixing together, especially once you think about the audience overlap.

Aside from that, there was almost an ‘Incredibles’ and ‘007’ agent sort of feel to the trailer. It works perfectly, especially as you start to see the new locations, weapons and characters being suited up that they’ve added in.

3. New ways of moving around – helicopters, hiding in boxes and mounts?

Digging into the trailer definitely gives some hints towards this. The helicopter shot can be seen in one of the new locations which many players will be keen to explore as quickly as possible.

Another area that seemed to be hinted at was mounts. It could be quite comical seeing 100 players bouncing around a map in this way, certainly making snipes a lot tougher compared to a player normally running. This might reduce the number of jumps needed when moving around the map.

Speaking of the map, this is the leaked map. Even though it does look mostly similar to the map in Season 1, we can still see some minor updates, noticeably the top left and top right corners of the map.

You might also start seeing players not only hiding in bushes but being inside boxes! This could definitely be interesting around some of the more urban areas of the maps by integrating yourself into the scenery.

No doubt these areas will be initially swarmed by players looking to explore the new locations, but it would make sense that the side missions mentioned in the trailer would also be involved around these areas.

Where does this leave us?

With all that said and done. it’s worth keeping in mind that there will be plenty of more changes happening over the next few seasons.

The biggest reason for this is the new engine that Epic Games have brought in to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics system. Will we see crumbling buildings or walls being gradually being built up? Time will tell. In the meantime, we know that Fortnite will still feel the same.
